Town of Wilkesboro, North Carolina

The Freedom Truck Mobile Museum

Description

November 6-7
North Bridge Street

A fleet of six mobile museums, known as "Freedom Trucks," are traveling throughout 2026, bringing the story of American independence to students, families, and citizens in every corner of our country and near many military communities.

With interactive and inspiring content for visitors of all ages, the exhibits tell the extraordinary story of how 13 colonies declared independence, defeated the greatest empire in the world and secured American sovereignty 250 years ago. With engaging elements such as quizzes, a kiosk to sign your name digitally to the Declaration of Independence and a wall of 50 American heroes, these exhibits celebrate the remarkable achievements that 250 years have made possible.

One of the six Freedom Trucks will be parked on North Bridge Street for these two days. Come bring the family and witness American History in person!

    *****FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*****
    North Collegiate Drive, Wilkesboro
    August 24, 2026

WILKESBORO, NC – The Town of Wilkesboro will temporarily close approximately 800’ of greenway near River’s Edge Park, as well as the Moravian Creek Trailhead Parking Area & Access later this month. The affected greenway stretch runs from the Town’s Public Works yard (behind Red Roof Inn) to the western end of the Taracido Viaduct at Worldwide Protective Products. The decision was made for the safety of the public while the joint Wilkesboro/North Wilkesboro raw water intake project is under construction.

There is no set date for reopening this stretch of greenway but it will reopen as soon as possible after construction is complete. There are no official detours connecting the River’s Edge Park Greenway section to the Moravian Creek section. We ask that greenway enthusiasts please respect the closure barricades standing between them and the construction zone.

For additional information, please contact the Wilkesboro Public Works at (336) 838-0188.
