The Town collects BULK ITEMS Monday through Friday.

Schedule a Bulk Item Collection

 REQUIREMENTS:

  • Residents will be allowed 1 free bulk item collection per year. Any other bulk collections within the same year will be assessed a fee. Also, there is a fee, published in the Schedule of Fees, associated for disposing of non-bulk material with the bulk collection.

  • White goods/appliances and other large bulk items not practical to containerize will be collected.

  • To request bulk item collection, the town asks that residents complete the online form or call Public Works at 336-838-0188. If no answer, please leave a message with name, address and telephone number so residents can be notified when the bulk items will be collected by the Town of Wilkesboro.

  • Bulk item collection is for residential units only. Business bulk item collection will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

  • Weight limits and fees will apply to the collection of bulk goods. If a customer fills a truck with bulky items to such an extent that it requires a trip to the landfill, the customer will be required to pay for the tipping fee and mileage which will be assessed at the current rate.

  • Unacceptable bulky, unapproved electronics, or banned landfill items will not be collected. The citizen must take to the landfill for disposal themselves.

  • Approved electronics or large loads - please contact Public Works for an appointment.

  • After notification and scheduling with Public Works, a truck will be delivered and, at the discretion of the Public Works Director, loaded by the resident. A service fee will be assessed as listed in a fee schedule approved by the Town Council. Each resident must complete and sign a Town of Wilkesboro Truck Policy Statement. Charges for collection will be invoiced.

  • Non-residential illegal dumping or burning of bulky items is not permitted.

WHAT BULYK ITEMS  CAN BE COLLECTED CURBSIDE?

Household furnishings & similar household items

Mattresses & box springs

Small household appliances such as hair dyer, etc.

Large white goods, such as refrigerators, washers, dryers or dishwashers - make sure no children can gain access to appliances while awaiting collection. Penalty ยง 51.99

Lawn equipment such as mowers, trimmers, wheelbarrows - must remove gasoline.

Bicycles - tires must be removed.

Large glass items such as windows, doors, mirrors, plate glass - must have glass taped with an X so it will not shatter in the collection process.

Television, computer monitors, tablets, laptops & computer tower - electronics are collected by appointment only by completing the online form.

WHAT BULK ITEMS CANNOT BE COLLECTED CURBSIDE?
Residents should consult with Wilkes County Landfill for disposal.

Commercial tree trimmers, lawn care services, contractors, builders, etc. shall dispose of their own limbs, trees, leaves, shrubbery, underbrush, building materials & refuse before leaving their job sites. If not removed, the removal is the property owner's responsibility to dispose of.

Any business items including appliances and equipment. Includes a landlord changing out appliances or equipment for a tenant. This is considered a business activity. Hazardous or industrial waste

Paint cans - let paint dry with lid off before putting in the bulky item collection

Furnaces & central air conditioner units

Roof materials

Human or animal tissue, urine, feces, etc. of any kind - bagged or un-bagged

Ashes - hot or cold or live coals or fire

No hypodermic syringes, needles or any items for injections must be broken, disassembled, destroyed and make the syringes inoperable that are not in a milk jug, coffee can or another container with a lid.

No wax or plastic coated corrugated sheets or boxes.

No batteries of any type

No tires of any type

No CFL bulbs or mercury containing items

No wood pallets effective May 19, 2019.

No oxygen tanks and other medical equipment

No propane tanks or large oil tanks

No vehicle exterior and interior parts for automotive, campers, boats, camper shells, trailers, motors, doors, fenders, car seats, etc.

No items too large to fit on the collection vehicle

No items that reasonably require more than 2 people to lift.

No clothing, bedding, or any other items where a highly infectious disease occurred.

No items that are a consequence of a fire - the resident should consult with Wilkes County Landfill for disposal.

No interior or exterior items as a result of clearing a property/parcel - the resident should consult with Wilkes County Landfill for disposal.

Leaves during seasonal leaf collection time frame (October through January).

Any other items at the Public Works Director's discretion.
