Wilkesboro Stage Sidewalk near Sidewalk with Benches

The town is proud to have an element of our downtown revitalization featured on Samsel Architect's portfolio of their amazing work at:  https://samselarchitects.com/portfolio-item/wilkesboro-stage/. With the purpose of restoring life and energy back into our historic downtown, the Wilkes Communications Pavilion addressed only one of several areas.

Items addressed during phase one were: Heritage Square that included a revamp of the grounds around the Wilkes Heritage Museum, a splash pad, veteran's memorial and cannon restoration in front of the Wilkes Heritage Museum. Heritage Square is next door to the Carolina West Wireless Community Commons which offers versatile lush lawn and cobblestone hardscapes under a partial canopy of trees. Many other features included a greenway connector to Main Street, sidewalks, parking, seating, firepits, and of course, the award-winning Wilkes Communications Pavilion. This downtown area offers a park setting in the middle of historic downtown that many enjoy, whether it be a place to escape to practice yoga or read a book all the way up to enjoying a large scale events and concerts.

Our transistion between of the revitalization phases is the rock building. Our goal is to turn the rock building into much needed bathroom/changing facilities during events, concerts, and splash pad as well as a musician's green room. Currently the building plans are fluid and are still developing.

Next our focus is to start on phase two of the downtown revitalization in 2021.
